LibraryH3lp and Mobile Technologies
LibraryH3lp is very mobile-friendly. Many components of the system have been designed
with mobile devices in mind:
Widget: The widget, written in JavaScript, has a
mobile-specific version that is optimized
for mobile browsers. It has been tested extensively on the iPhone/iPod Touch and the native Android phone browser. Most
other chat widgets are Flash, which is not yet supported on iPhone/iPod Touch.
SMS (text messaging): We
provide three different SMS gateway options.
The first runs on a library-purchased Google Android phone. Requires good
network connectivity; works internationally.
The second is a gateway for the
SMS portion of
Google Voice. US phone numbers only; international send/receive
not officially supported.
Free.
The third SMS gateway uses Twilio and is more robust than either
of the other two gateways. US phone numbers only; international
send/receive (countries list).
Offered at-cost, no markup.
IM gateways: Many busy people, like your patrons,
use their mobile phones with their favorite IM account to stay in touch while they're on
the road. LibraryH3lp's gateways work with most popular IM
networks.
Staffing client flexibility: Since you can staff LibaryH3lp using any XMPP/Jabber client, you can even staff your service from a mobile device if you so
desire. Popular mobile clients available on many mobile platforms include BeeJive, Meebo, and IM+, but others should work as well.
